No accounts, no analytics, no ad tracking, and nothing about you is sold or shared.
The short version
You can read every page on MuniScout without signing in, and there is nothing to sign in to. We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell, rent or share your information.
The one thing we ever ask you for is an email address, and only if you choose to join the waiting list for Pro, which has its own section below.
The one cookie
One cookie, named region, remembers which region you chose in the switcher at the top of the page so the site opens there next time. It holds a region name and nothing else, and it lasts a year.
It is the only cookie the site sets. Because it does nothing but remember a choice you made, there is no consent banner to click. Clear your browser's cookies for this site and it is gone.
The Pro waiting list
Pro is not open yet, and the form on that page is the one place MuniScout asks you for anything. If you use it we store your email address, the optional line about what you would want alerts for, which region you were browsing, and which page you signed up from, with the date.
It is used for one thing: to email you when Pro opens. It is not a newsletter, it is not an account, we do not sell, rent or share it, and nothing on the site reads the list back. To come off it, email CONTACT_EMAIL (not filled in yet) and say so; we delete the row and do not keep a copy.
Server records
Like any website, ours keeps ordinary server records of requests: the page asked for, the time, the browser and the network address it came from. They are used to keep the site running and secure, and for nothing else. They are not linked to a person and not used to follow you between visits.
When a page fails, the error is recorded so we can fix it. Those records carry the page and the fault, not who you are.
The map
Most pages load nothing from anyone else — even the fonts are served from this site. The one exception is the interactive map: if you open it, your browser asks OpenStreetMap (opens in new tab) for street tiles, so that request reaches them and not only us. Every other page leaves your browser talking to this site alone.
Officials’ contact details
Phone numbers and email addresses for elected and appointed officials appear only where the government itself publishes them, exactly as it publishes them. We do not look them up anywhere else and we do not collect private addresses.
They are also shown behind a click. The page loads without the address or number in it, and it appears only when a person presses See email address or See phone number. That keeps officials' contacts out of search snippets and out of bulk harvesting, while a resident who wants to write to their council member still gets one tap.
If a government changes or removes a published contact, tell us and we will match the source.
Asking for a correction
To correct or remove something on a page — a wrong contact, an out-of-date roster, a record that is not yours — email CONTACT_EMAIL (not filled in yet) with the link to the page and what is wrong. We check the government's own source and fix it there, so the correction stays fixed. Requests from a city clerk or a district secretary go first; About MuniScout explains the path.
Changes to this notice
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Terms of use covers the rest of how the site may be used.
